The past president of both the British Property Federation and chairman of the Scottish Property Federation will have the particular focus of advising Savills as a shareholder in Cordea Savills.

The international fund management business is jointly owned by Savills and Cordea's management team.

Glasgow-based Hunter, who in the past has been a fund manger for Aberdeen Property Investors and RREEF and also led the management reorganisation of Treveria, the AIM-listed German retail fund, said of the tie up:

'Savills has a significant stake in Cordea Savills, but Savills themselves are not fund management experts. Cordea Savills is an interesting business and Savills has to make decisions as a shareholder and a partner.

'Traditionally the relationship between advisors to funds and management has been complicated. There has always been a strong effort to be independent and they [Cordea Savills and Savills] are.

'This is a time of great challenges and opportunities in fund management and I look forward to assisting Savills in this area. Cordea has a wide product range and investor base and is in a good position to take advantage of current market opportunities to grow.'
